Saturday, October 30, 2010, was a beautiful fall day, the perfect setting to open the doors of ECDI and welcome our neighbors. This two hour open house event was planned to give neighbors the opportunity to learn more about ECDI and the services we offer and for our staff to get acquainted with the people in our new neighborhood on the near east side.
The reception area was brightly decorated with orange table cloths and dozens of helium balloons. Lemonade, sweet treats and other delicious snacks tempted guests as they visited. Neighbors who attended talked with staff about upcoming training programs and other services for which they may qualify. Dana Moessner and Dan Downing from Four Season Farms were also in attendance. They had the opportunity to look at the warehouses and space that may someday be a community garden. Their sharing of ideas for these spaces was encouraging.
The children in particular had lots of fun! Billy Karmia’s stuffed animal giveaway was a highlight. Face painting, balloon twisting activities, and crafting fun also lead to lots of smiles and joyous sounds from all.
ECDI’s first neighborhood party was successful in educating the dozen or so neighbors who showed up at the event. By passing out door to door approximately 200 invitations, we hope that ECDI’s name recognition has improved. We are certain that those in attendance will help spread the word.
EDCI thanks Fifth Third Bank for generously sponsoring this event.
